(NBC News)- Starting in 2021, U.S. citizens will be required to obtain a visa to travel to the European Union.
Americans traveling after Jan. 21, 2021 will need an ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) visa when traveling to a European Schengen-zone country, which includes Germany, France, Spain, Sweden, and Italy.
This will not apply to Ireland or the United Kingdom.
The visa will only cost around $10 and will even be required for short stays under 90-days.
To apply for a visa, Americans will need a valid passport, an email account, and a credit or debit card. Passports must be valid for three months beyond the period of an individual’s intended stay.
