A stretch of the M2 is closed in both directions this weekend and drivers are facing a diversion.

The motorway has been closed while workers carry out separate resurfacing works which will coincide on Friday night (March 15) and Saturday night (March 16).

Both carriageways will be shut off between junctions 5 and 6.

The coastbound closure will be in place all weekend from 8pm on Friday to 6am on Monday (March 18), meaning drivers will have to follow a diversion near Sittingbourne and Faversham.

Another closure is set to cause chaos for diverting drivers on Saturday night as a stretch of the A249 will be shut off for more resurfacing.

There are number of diversions you need to be aware of, which are listed here.

And the roadworks are already causing problems.

There is congestion on the M2 back to the Medway Services, with traffic queueing on approach to the closure.

Traffic travelling between Sittingbourne and Faversham is also affected.
