BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -

The New York State Department of Transportation announced that traffic in the city of Binghamton will be affected by work on the Prospect Mountain Project.

Beginning Monday January 14th through Saturday January 19th Interstate 81 South will be closed across the bridge over Chenango River between Front Street and Exit 4 S-N.

The work will be done nightly from 7 P.M to 7A.M so that crews can install steel bridge girders for the new Route 17 East Flyover bridge.

There will be signed detour routes to help drivers on I-81 South to Route 17 West to Exit 71S in Johnson City to Airport Road.

They will then turn right onto Route 17 East and get off at Route 17/I-81 South Exit S-N.

The NYSDOT says the detours will take less than 10 minutes.
