BISCOE — No one was seriously injured but traffic was backed up on Friday following two separate accidents on Interstate 73 in Montgomery County, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.

The first accident occurred on the interstate near N.C. 27 and (East Main Street) and Mile Marker 49 near Biscoe, around 2 p.m.

That accident involved a 2016 Volvo tractor-trailer, driven by Swarnjit Singh Dhaliwal, and a 2011 Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by Jimmy Aaron Medlin.

“The tractor-trailer involved was having a mechanical issue with a service airline and lost air pressure. He attempted to move to the shoulder of I-73 but was unable to get completely off of the travel portion of the road,” said Trooper A.C. McLester of Stanly County who investigated the wreck.

“The second vehicle involved was unable to change lanes due to other traffic and sideswiped the tractor-trailer. Both came to a rest on the shoulder of I-73.”

A second accident occurred between two other vehicles traveling southbound on I-73 on the left inside lane, a 2010 Ford pickup truck, driven by Zachary Chase Carter of Randleman, and a 2017 Chevrolet SUV, driven by James Sheridan of Houston, Texas.

The driver of the SUV slowed due to the previous wreck in the right outside lane. The pickup’s driver failed to reduce speed and his vehicle struck the SUV, the patrol said.

Carter was charged with reckless driving. No charges were filed in the first wreck.

Trooper G.W. Beaman of Montgomery County also assisted in the investigations.
